I tested my own WordPress backup. Not because I had to, but because I wanted to know for myself before I ever explained it to anyone else.
Most people believe they are protected because a backup is being made somewhere. Daily, neatly, automatically. But a backup you have never restored is not certainty. It is an assumption.
So I simply did it. A full restore, files and database, on one of my own sites.
Not a press-one-button story, by the way. Downloading a backup, unpacking it on the server, and restoring the database separately through phpMyAdmin. Several steps, no automatic wizard.
Time taken: fifteen minutes. Fully verified, not assumed.
That may sound obvious. It is not. Most WordPress owners, and frankly plenty of people who maintain sites professionally, have never checked this themselves. They rely on what a plugin or a hosting company promises, without ever having seen it.
Whether you run one WordPress site or an entire client portfolio, the same question applies: do you know your backup works? Or do you assume it?
The question is not whether your site will ever be hacked, corrupted, or broken by a bad update. The question is when. And whether you are ready for it.
I now offer active WordPress security and tested backups, from a single website to a full client portfolio.
